Biography

Kaybee Cashmore was born Kerstin Brühl in Wetzlar, Germany. After completing her Abitur, she studied Theatre Studies, Voice and Acting, laying the foundation for a career spanning musical theatre, live entertainment, television, radio, recording and production.

From 1991 to 2006, Kaybee appeared extensively in musical theatre productions across Germany and Europe. Her principal roles included Grizabella in Cats, The Narrator in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Buffy in Starlight Express, and roles including Madame Thénardier, Éponine and Fantine in Les Misérables. Further leading credits included Nemo, Chess, Weg zum Erfolg, Tommy, Gaudi and Licence 4 Two.

Alongside her theatre career, Kaybee developed a wide-ranging profile as a live performer and media personality. She worked as the frontwoman of her own pop and soul band, as a radio presenter, studio vocalist, voice-over artist, model, actress and director.

From 1997 onwards, she toured internationally with her own live shows, establishing herself as a versatile entertainer known for her powerful stage presence, natural charisma and close connection with audiences. She became a popular guest performer at gala events, corporate functions, theatres and aboard cruise ships throughout Europe.

In 2001, Kaybee received the International Show Trophy for Best Live Show Act. Shortly afterwards, she was nominated as Best Female Singer by the German Rock and Pop Musicians Association.

Since 2000, Kaybee has also worked closely with her husband, British singer and performer John Cashmore. Together they created and toured several productions, including Musicals & More and Black & White – Broadway Night, performing successfully throughout Europe.

In 2005, Kaybee took on a major creative role in the revival of Eric Woolfson’s musical Gaudi. In addition to appearing in a leading role, she worked as producer, developed a new storyline and created a projection-based stage concept for the production.

The following year, she wrote her own musical, Licence 4 Two, inspired by the world of James Bond, and served both as producer and leading performer.

In 2007, Kaybee toured with her tribute productions celebrating Ella Fitzgerald and Tina Turner, alongside her musical show and the soul programme Deep in My Soul. In September that year, she appeared as a jazz soloist in Leonard Bernstein’s Mass in Bucharest, performing with the Romanian Radio Orchestra under the direction of Wayne Marshall as part of the George Enescu Festival.

A year later, she appeared in a number of major concert projects, including the world premiere of Gaudi Meets Gambler at the Monschau Klassik Festival, performed with the orchestra of the Bolshoi Opera Minsk under conductor Juri Gilbo.

In response to strong demand from her German audience, Kaybee recorded the German-language album Ich liebe Dich in 2008. Songs from the album received airplay on German-language radio stations.

During 2010 and 2011, alongside concerts and gala appearances, Kaybee concentrated on developing her solo recording project, collaborating with songwriters including Tim Fraser, Jim Beadle and Mike MacLachlan. She also founded the Kaybee Cashmore Band.

Her single Closer Than Your Skin was released on 20 June 2011.

From 2011 onwards, Kaybee toured Germany with the productions Spirit of Scotland and Celtic Spirit. She later appeared as a featured performer in Klassik Meets Rock and Classic Goes Broadway.

Together with John Cashmore, she also continued developing Gaudi Meets Gambler, originally founded by the couple in 2009. In 2013, the production evolved into the Gaudi Meets Gambler Project, premiering in Aachen before being presented at venues across Germany.

Kaybee remained an active stage performer until 2020. The Covid-19 pandemic brought a natural break to live performance, after which she concentrated primarily on studio work and explored new creative projects beyond the stage.

Her artistic career, however, remains very much alive — and a return to live performance has never been ruled out.

More than three decades of theatre, music, performance and production have shaped Kaybee Cashmore’s career — a journey defined by versatility, creativity and a lifelong passion for live entertainment.
